Welcome Message

We welcome all delegates, local and international, to BRAIN 2017, a multidisciplinary neuroscience conference in Hong Kong.

BRAIN is a series of annual conferences organised by the Divisions of Neurosurgery, Neurology and the Department of Anatomical & Cellular Pathology of the Prince of Wales Hospital, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. We organise these conferences because we strongly believe in the multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of neurologic diseases. The conference is usually held in January of each year. There is usually excellent participation by neurosurgeons, neurologists, pathologists and related scientists in Hong Kong and in the region.

In addition to our traditional passion on Brain Tumours and Stroke, this year we have gathered a strong program on Neuromodulation, Neuro-regeneration and Dementia. International experts in these areas of neuroscience research include Alim Louis BENABID, Zhengming CHEN, Zhigang HE, Roger Edwin MCLENDON, Roger STUPP and Wise YOUNG, just to name a few. We look forward to your participation in this two-day conference, stimulating interaction between established and up-coming workers in clinical neuroscience research.

Weather
Hong Kong's climate is sub-tropical. Weather in January is in the middle of Winter. It is normally clear and sunny but cool and dry with occasional cold fronts. Average temperature is 12℃ – 20℃. Further information can be found at the website of Hong Kong Observatory.

Time Zone
Hong Kong is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (i.e. GMT + 8 hours).

Currency
Hong Kong’s unit of currency is the Hong Kong dollar (HK$) which is tied to the US dollar at an exchange rate of about HK$7.8 to US$1. The Hong Kong dollar in everyday circulation is available in 10¢, 20¢, 50¢, $1, $2, $5 and $10 coins, and $10, $20, $50, $100, $500 and $1,000 banknotes. Most foreign currencies and travelers cheques are easily changed at banks, hotels and moneychangers. Credit cards are widely accepted at major hotels, large restaurants, department stores and shops.

The Mass Transit Railway (MTR) and public buses allow easy access throughout the territories. Hong Kong' taxis are cheap and efficient with a HK$22 flag fall. And for those looking for a mode of travel that has been used for decades, there are the Star Ferries, Hong Kong Island's street trams and the venerable Peak Tram. Payments can be made using an Octopus Card, an electronic stored-value card that is widely accepted on all public transports. Road signs in Hong Kong are bilingual in both English and Chinese.
