Yu Fan Cheng is the Professor of the Department of Radiology and Liver Transplantation Center at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. He is the pioneer in liver cancer treatment, liver transplantation image and interventional radiology, and has been supported by national research grants for more than 20 years. A graduate of the China Medical University, he completed his radiology training at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan and Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, USA. He became the Professor of Radiology in 2003 and was subsequently bestowed with the title of Honorary Professor by several international universities. He has published more than 400 scientific articles and has lectured in more than 100 international congresses. A well-known scientific physician, he is now one of the global leading experts in interventional radiology and liver transplant imaging.

Woo-Jin Cho

Woojin Cho is Board certified in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and the Representative Director of Withsim Clinic in Bundang(near Seoul), South Korea. He graduated from Korea University in Seoul, South Korea, and trained in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Korea University Anam Hospital. He maintains an active busy practice using Ultrasound, focused exclusively on patients with a lump on the neck including Thyroid nodules, Salivary disease, Lymphadenopathy and various Soft tissue diseases. He is also active in research on Office-based Head and Neck Ultrasound performed by Surgeons and Ultrasonography-guided Procedures (Radiofrequency ablation, Sclerotherapy and Core needle biopsy). He has delivered over 100 scientific presentations worldwide and published more than 20 peer reviewed articles and chapters on medical textbooks, mainly dealing with head and neck ultrasound. As an executive board member of Korean Association of Otorhinolaryngologists and Korean Society of Head and Neck Surgery, he has been in charge of over 20 international and domestic head and neck ultrasound courses for surgeons (Hong Kong, Japan and New Zealand, etc.). He has received three “Presentation of the Year” awards at the Annual Congress of Korean Association of Otorhinolaryngologists.

Seon-Hahn Kim

Dr. Kim Seon Hahn is Professor in Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, that is his new academic position appointed in Sep 2022. He was Professor of Colorectal Division, Department of Surgery at Korea University Anam Hospital, Korea University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea (2006-2022). He has been specifically interested in robotic and minimally invasive surgery and surgical anatomy in colorectum during 30 years.

Prof. Kim has performed more than 3500 laparoscopic colon and rectal resections and over 1000 robotic rectal resections, mainly for cancer. He performed many live robotic and laparoscopic surgeries at various international congresses and at oversea hospitals. He was honored to give several orations such as; the ‘BJS Lecture’ titled “Minimally invasive complete mesocolic excision” at the 2015 Congress of European Society of Coloproctology in Dublin, the very first ‘Yasunobu Tsujinaka Memorial Oration’ titled “Current status of robotic colorectal surgery” at the 27th Annual Jagelman/37th Turnbull International Colorectal Symposium 2016 held in Florida, a Keynote Lecture at the 2018 Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) 87th Annual Scientific Congress in Sydney, Australia, and ‘The William Hugh Isbister Lecture’ titled “Deloyers Procedure” at the 2019 Saudi-International Colorectal Diseases Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Prof. Kim was the Founding President of Korean Association of Robotic Surgeons (KAROS, 2013-15) and the Chairman of the Korean Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons (KSELS, 2014-16). He was awarded the Yeoh Ghim Seng Professor of Surgery by National University of Singapore (2008-14), and Dr. Anthony PC Yim Professorship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Innovative Technology by Chinese University of Hong Kong (2011). He has been also invited as visiting professor/scholarship worldwide, including Cleveland Clinic Cleveland, OH (2009), Royal Brisbane Hospital in Australia (2011), National Cheng Gong University in Taiwan (2012/2015), Kumamoto University in Japan (2013), Karolinska Institute Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden (2015/2017), and University of Western Sydney, Australia (2018-2023).

Masanori Terashima

Dr. Terashima is a Deputy Director of Shizuoka Cancer Center. He graduated Iwate Medical University in 1983 and became an assistant professor in 1994. And then turned to be an associate professor of Fukushima Medical University in 2002. He finally moved to Shizuoka Cancer Center in 2008 as a chief of division of gastric surgery. Shizuoka Cancer Center is the 2nd leading hospital in terms of the number of gastric cancer surgery in Japan. Currently, about 100 open surgery, 80 laparoscopic surgery and 70 robotic surgery are performed annually. He had been also serving as a chairman of Japan Clinical Oncology Group (JCOG) Stomach Cancer Study Group until 2022, and conducting many pivotal trials as a principle investigator such as JCOG1301, JCOG1509, JCOG1907. He can perform any kinds of gastric cancer surgery from extended lymph node dissection including para-aortic lymph node dissection to minimally invasive surgery using the Da Vinci Surgical System as well as laparoscopic surgery. He has already performed more than 400 robotic gastrectomy. He is a past president of 91st Annual Meeting of Japan Gastric Cancer Association in 2019. He also dedicates in translational researches such as metabolome analysis and exome sequence using human gastric cancer samples. He has more than 260 publications so far.
He also is serving as editorial bord members of several distinguished medical journals. He is currently an associate editor of Gastric Cancer.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from West China Medical University in 1987, Li Jian has been working in the Department of Orthopedics at West China Hospital. Currently, he holds the position of Deputy Director of Orthopedics (Teaching). In 2000, he established the Subspecialty of Orthopedic Sports Medicine/Arthroscopy at West China Hospital. In 2013, he founded and served as the Director of the Sports Medicine Center at West China Hospital. In 2015, he was recognized as a leading figure in academic and technical fields in Sichuan Province.

  • In 2022, Li Jian received the “Outstanding Achievement” award as a “People’s Famous Doctor.” He has conducted multiple training sessions for sports medicine arthroscopic surgeons in the western region of China, contributing to the development of sports medicine in the western region. Ke Lin, MD, is the Chief of Surgery of West China Hospital, Sichuan University and is an Attending, a Professor and a Doctoral Supervisor in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery. He is also a member of standing committee of the China Chapter of Asian Academy of Heart Valve Disease (AAHVD), a member of Asian Pediatric Academy of Congenital Heart Disease (APACHD), a member of International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery (ISMICS), a member of standing committee of Chinese Non-Public Association of Structural Cardiology, a member of Congenital Heart Disease Subcommittee of National Committee of Cardiovascular Experts, the vice chair of Cardiovascular Surgery Subcommittee of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association and also a Academic and Technical Foregoer of Sichuan Province. He specializes in the surgical treatment of complex congenital heart disease, and has made great achievements in the field of valve repair and minimally invasive cardiovascular surgery. He was invited to give oral presentations during the annual meeting of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) in 2011, the International Congress of the European Society for CardioVascular and Endovascular Surgery(ESCVS)in 2013 and the annual scientific meeting of the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery (ISMICS) in 2014. He is skilled in many kinds of complex surgery, which include: arterial switch operation (including double switch operation), Nikaidoh procedure, REV procedure, Ross procedure, Konno procedure, surgical correction of Ebstein Anomaly (Cone reconstruction) and surgical correction of HOCM. In recent years, he has published more than 30 SCI papers as the first or corresponding author, and has presided over 3 National Natural Science Foundation projects and a number of provincial projects.

James YW Lau
Yao Ling Sun Professor of Surgery

Dr Lau graduated from the Medical School to the University of New South Wales in 1987. In the 1990s, Dr Lau was trained in upper gastrointestinal and therapeutic endoscopy. He received further training in vascular surgery in Edinburgh in 2000. Dr Lau currently leads the vascular surgical service at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His current practice includes endoscopy with a focus on difficult ERCP, abdominal sarcoma surgery, open and endovascular surgery for vascular diseases.

Dr Lau has diverse research interests. He is internationally renowned for his clinical research in the management of patients with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding and in therapeutic endoscopy specifically in biliary endoscopy and hemostatic techniques. In addition, he is interested in novel GI imaging techniques, epidemiology of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Dr Lau became Professor to Surgery in 2008 and in addition received an endowed Professorship following a generous donation from late Mr. Yao Ling Sun. Dr. Lau received two National Awards and a Croucher Senior Medical Fellowship for his excellence in clinical research.

Simon SM Ng

Prof Simon Ng graduated from the medical school of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 1995 with 7 distinctions and was awarded the honour degree and double Gold Medals. He passed the Joint Specialty Fellowship Examination in General Surgery in 2002 with highest marks and won the Li-Shields Medal. In 2013, Prof Ng received his Medical Doctoral Degree with Commendation from CUHK for his research thesis on the long-term outcomes of laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer.

Prof Ng is currently Associate Dean (Student Affairs) of the Faculty of Medicine, Chairman and Professor of the Department of Surgery, and Chief of the Division of Colorectal Surgery, CUHK. He is an Honorary Consultant at Prince of Wales Hospital and the Cluster Service Team Head in Colorectal Surgery, New Territories East Cluster (NTEC), Hospital Authority. He is the President of the Hong Kong Society for Coloproctology, a Council Member of the Hong Kong IBD Society and the Hong Kong Society of Robotic Surgery, an Honorary Member of the Korean Association of Robotic Surgeons, a Board Member of the Asia Pacific Endo-Lap Surgery Group, a Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), and the International Chair of the Global Reach Committee of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP).

Prof Ng’s main clinical and research interests are minimally invasive/robotic surgery and advanced endoscopic therapy for colorectal diseases, multimodality treatment for colorectal cancer, colorectal cancer screening, biomarkers for colorectal cancer, and integrative medicine. His research work in colorectal surgery has earned him a number of international and national awards, including the Northern California Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Award of the ASCRS (2008), the International Guest Scholarship of the American College of Surgeons (2010), the GB Ong Traveling Fellowship (2011), the British Journal of Surgery Prize of the ESCP (2011), the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh China Medal (2014 and 2016), the Ministry of Education Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Award – First-class Award in Natural Sciences (2014), the State Natural Science Award – Second-class Award (2016), the Outstanding Fellowship of the Faculty of Medicine, CUHK (2019), the Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Award - First-class Award (2019), and the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award – First-class Award (2022). In 2022, the NTE Lower Gastrointestinal Cancer Multidisciplinary Team, led by Prof Ng, received the NTEC Outstanding Team Award in recognition of their outstanding achievements and invaluable contributions to colorectal cancer patient care in Hong Kong.

On the pedagogical side, Prof Ng had received eleven Teacher of the Year Awards of the Faculty of Medicine from 2005 to 2018, the Master Teacher Award in 2011, the Faculty Education Award in 2023, and the University Education Award in 2023. In recognition of his outstanding performance in the surgical profession and his contribution to the community, Prof Ng was selected as one of the awardees of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Hong Kong in 2010.

Anthony YB Teoh

Professor Anthony Y. B., TEOH is currently the Deputy Director of Endoscopy and Professor in The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is currently the Chairman of the WEO research subcommittee, Vice president of the Asian EUS group and the Hong Kong Hernia Society. He also serves as Secretary to the Hong Kong EUS society. He is also a council member of the Hong Kong College of Surgeons, Hong Kong Hernia Society, Hong Kong Society of Robotic Surgery and Hong Kong Society of Digestive Endoscopy. He graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2001. After completing his surgical training, he has received overseas training in many international centres including the Kitasato University East Hospital and the Cancer Institute Hospital (Ariake) in Japan, the University of Washington, Cornell University and Stanford University in USA. His research interests are multifold and these include advanced interventional endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERCP), minimally invasive upper gastrointestinal cancer surgery, hernia surgery and robotics surgery. He is a winner of multiple awards including 2019 Asian Pacific Digestive Week Emerging Leaders Lectureship, Carlos Pellegrini Traveling Fellow, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy endoscopic research awards, the GB Ong and Li Shield’s Medal (best candidate in the fellowship examinations both locally and internationally). He has served as a Visiting Professor to the Stanford Medical Center, Fujian University Medical Hospital, Consultant for Hepatopancreatobiliary Minimally Invasive Surgery Institute of Central South University. He is also a steering committee member for the Asian EUS group, member of pancreaticobiliary committee of the World Endoscopy Organization, council member of the Hong Kong College of Surgeons, Hong Kong Hernia Society, Hong Kong Society of Robotic Surgery and Hong Kong Society of Digestive Endoscopy. In addition, he is currently an Associate Editor for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Digestive Endoscopy, Endoscopy International Open and Techniques in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. His other editorial board experiences include several internationally renowned journals: Clinical gastroenterology and hepatology, VideoGIE, Endoscopic ultrasound, Saudi journal of gastroenterology, World journal of Gastrointestinal endoscopy and World Journal of Gastroenterology. He has obtained over $10 million HKD in research grants, published over 150 journal papers and written 14 book chapters. He is currently a Consultant for Boston Scientific, Cook, Taewoong, Microtech and M.I. Tech Medical Corporations.

Kaori Futaba

Dr Futaba is a General Surgeon with a specialist interest in colorectal surgery with more than 20 years of clinical experience. She graduated from Medical School at University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. She completed her training in General, Colorectal and Minimally Invasive Surgery in the UK and was working as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the University Hospital Birmingham, UK before joining the Department of Surgery as an Assistant Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has specialist interest in minimally invasive colorectal surgery, pelvic floor and functional bowel disorders as well as in inflammatory bowel disease. She is committed to expanding the Functional Bowel Service in the Prince of Wales Hospital to help patients in Hong Kong suffering from functional bowel disorders.

She is passionate about Medical Education and is always looking for new ways to make learning fun for students. She has obtained a Master's degree in Medical Science in Clinical Education from the University of Nottingham in UK in 2009 with interest in simulation. She enjoys working on a variety of projects with students, trainees and colleagues to produce online learning materials for Medical students to stimulate their interest and encourage higher-order thinking to improve their understanding.

Her current research interest are in functional bowel disorders and inflammatory bowel disease. Whilst in UK, she was a founding member of a trainee-led research collaborative group allowing trainees to carry out meaningful clinical research together to make a difference. She continues to be involved in international collaborative research, including COVIDSurg with aim of finding ways of managing surgical patients as safely as possible during this Pandemic.

Shirley YW Liu

Dr Shirley Liu is the Head of Endocrine Surgery Division of Prince of Wales Hospital & Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Hong Kong. She is also a Clinical Associate Professor (honorary) at the Department of Surgery of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Shirley graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2003 with Distinction in Surgery. She completed her general surgery residency in Prince of Wales Hospital and obtained fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong in 2010. She started her practice as an endocrine and bariatric surgeon since 2010. She is an active researcher and her academic contributions have been recognized by over 20 international awards, including the Fujimoto Prize (First Prize) from the Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons in 2014, the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES) Best Clinical Paper Prize in 2015, and the IAES Dr John Farndon Award in 2017.

With strong enthusiasm in the local development of endocrine surgery, Shirley took the initiative in establishing the Hong Kong Association of Endocrine Surgeons (HKAES) in April 2019 and serves as the founding Vice President of the Association. She is also currently working as the President (Hong Kong, China Region) of the Chinese Young Federation for the Surgery of Obesity & Metabolic Disorders, the Vice President of the Younger Fellow Chapter of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong, and the council members of the Hong Kong Society of Minimal Access Surgery (HKSMAS), the Hong Kong Thyroid Society (HKTS), the Hong Kong Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (HKSMBS) and the Hong Kong Society of Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition (HKSPEN).

Professor Henry Lik Yuen Chan is the Deputy Chief Hospital Manager, Head of Department of Internal Medicine, and Head of Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology of Union Hospital in Hong Kong. He is also an Honorary Clinical Professor of Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Chan has been a key investigator in over 30 international trials on antiviral treatment of chronic hepatitis B and C, and has advised 25 biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in the development of molecular diagnostics and new antiviral drug for viral hepatitis cure. He has received numerous local, national and international research awards, including Okuda Lectureship in Asia Pacific Digestive Week in 2018. He has published over 550 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and is awarded Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics in consecutive years since 2018 for producing multiple top 1% cited papers under Web of Science. In 2023, he is ranked Third Best Medicine Scientist in China under Research.com for the high citation of his publications.

Professor Chan is an associate editor of Hepatology International and has served as an associate editor for Journal of Hepatology in 2014-2019. He is currently the Scientific Chair in International Association for the Study of the Liver (IASL). He was the chairman of the Strategic Technical Advisory Committee on Viral Hepatitis for the Western Pacific Regional Office of WHO in 2015-2022. He was awarded Ten Outstanding Young Persons in Hong Kong in 2008 in recognition of his professional excellence and contribution to the community.

Peter WH Chan

Dr. Peter Chan was graduated at the medical faculty of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. After graduation, he pursued his specialist training in general surgery in Yan Chai Hospital. He started his private practice since this year.

He obtained his fellowship in general surgery in 2014. He had special interest in endocrine surgery including minimal invasive thyroid surgery such as endoscopic thyroid surgery and radiofrequency ablation of thyroid nodules.

He underwent overseas subspecialty training in the Police General Hospital in Thailand, the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in USA and the Asan Medical Centre in South Korea.

He is currently an Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery in both HKU and CUHK. He has participated in various symposiums and workshops as speaker, instructor or moderator to share experience with other doctors.

Shannon M Chan

Dr Shannon Chan is currently an assistant professor in the Division of Upper Gastrointestinal & Metabolic Surgery of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007. She completed general surgical training and received fellowships of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2014. Dr. Chan’s interest is in gastric and esophageal cancers, mainly focusing in the laparoscopic and robotic approach. She did her overseas training in National Cancer Centre in Tokyo, Yonsei University in Seoul and also Amsterdam Medical Centre in Amsterdam. Her research interests include upper gastrointestinal surgical oncology and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy especially in interventional endoscopic ultrasound. She also has special interests in peritoneal surface malignancy and has started a multidisciplinary team for these rare, yet important group of patients. She is a member of the stomach and duodenal diseases subcommittee of the World Endoscopy Organisation (WEO) and is a reviewer for Digestive Endoscopy and Surgical Endoscopy. She has published over 20 peer-reviewed journals.

Apart from her research interest, Dr. Chan has also devoted herself to humanitarian aid work. In 2014, she joined the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF, also named Doctors without borders). MSF is an international humanitarian non-governmental organization working in war-torn and under-developed regions. Dr. Chan joined their surgical missions to South Sudan from Oct 2016 - Dec 2016 and to Yemen from Dec 2019 to Feb 2020. After her return, she has further affirmed her commitment to providing humanitarian aid to the less developed parts of the world.

Dr Takuya Fujikawa received medical training from Medical school of Tohoku university, Japan. He undertook higher surgical training in cardiothoracic surgery in Yamagata Prefectural Central Hospital, Tohoku-Kouseinenkin Hospital, Kawasaki Aortic Center.

Dr. Fujikawa’s career interest focuses on open aortic surgery. He was a staff surgeon of Kawasaki Aortic Center from 2011. Kawasaki Aortic Center is one of the highest volume aortic center in Japan in which around 500 cases of open thoracic and thoraco-abdominal surgery were performed per year, including more than 120 cases of acute type A dissection. Dr Fujikawa has performed over 300 cases of open aortic surgery and supervised more than 300 cases of complex aortic surgeries to his junior trainees.

Dr. Fujikawa joined Department of Surgery, Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong as an Assistant Professor in February 2017 and has committed to expand the horizon of complex open aortic surgery in Hong Kong. Since July 2018, he has been Associate Consultant and he is still actively involved in training of open aortic surgery in Prince of Wales Hospital, development of post-operative protocol for open descending aortic replacement and instrumental to decision making in Aortic Multidisciplinary Team monthly meeting.

Dr Fujikawa is currently a certificated cardiovascular surgery trainer of The Japanese board of Cardiovascular Surgery. And he is a member of Cardiothoracic Surgery Board of Japan, European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Society and Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He has presented in various National and International meetings including JSVS, Aortic Lives, TSVS, ASCVTS, EACTS and Aortic Symposium of AATS.

Ms. Kwok has extensive clinical experience in the areas of continence management, nursing education and management of patients who have undergone urological surgery and Gender Affirmation Surgery. She acts as the leading role in the urology nursing team in NTEC for continuous professional development and advancements in urology. Her working motto places emphasize on provision of patient-centred care. Alongside the CUHK and NTEC urology team, she conducts research and applies her local based research findings in her daily urology practice.

Prof. Lai graduated from CUHK and joined the department in 1990. He received surgical training in Hong Kong and Edinburgh and specialized in hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery. Apart from being an active practicing surgeon, teacher for medical students and trainer for surgical trainees, Prof. Lai is actively involved in both clinical and basic scientific research. He is also the editor-in-chief of the journal Surgical Practice and a member of editorial boards of a number of local and international academic journals, such as British Journal of Surgery and Annals of Surgical Oncology.

Prof. Lai served as the Director of the Office of Medical Education (OME) from 2014 to 2019 and the OME served to oversee the MBChB curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Lai has a keen interest in surgical outcome research, quality and risk management, healthcare policy, medico-legal and mediation. He has studied for a master degree in medical law at the University of Northumbria and he is an accredited mediator in Hong Kong under the Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited (HKMAAL). He has contributed to training and education of healthcare professionals in various areas and is an experience examiner in the Faculty and College of Surgeons of Hong Kong. He also served as the Vice President (Education and Examination) of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine from 2021 to 2022.

In the field of hospital administration, Prof. Lai was previously the Honorary Chief of Service in the Department of Surgery at the Prince of Wales Hospital and the Cluster Coordinator for Surgical Services in New Territories East Cluster from 2008 to 2018. He was elected as a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, a fellow of the Faculty of Public Health and a fellow of the Hong Kong College of Community Medicine (Administrative Medicine) in 2018. Miss Wanda Lee is the first batch of nurses in the development of robotic surgery in Hong Kong. After promotion to theatre nurse manager, she engaged in the building work and design of new robotic theatre as well as the purchase of new robotic systems. Dr. Mok graduated MBBS from The University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 1980. After a year of internship in surgery and in medicine in Queen Mary Hospital (QMH), and a year working as Medical Officer in the Accident and Emergency Department in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, he joined the University Surgical Unit (USU) in 1982. Having undergone training in different specialties of surgery, he obtained FRCSEd in 1985, FCSHK and FRACS in 1990, FHKAM(Surg) in 1993, and Specialist in General Surgery Registration in Hong Kong in 1998. He pursued sub-specialty training in hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgery (HBP) & upper gastrointestinal (UGI) surgery in Hong Kong, working with Professor S T Fan and Professor Frank Branicki, and in Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1987, under the tutelage of Professor David Carter & Professor James Garden. He also received training in flexible endoscopy in Tokyo Women’s Hospital in 1990. While in QMH, he was involved heavily in research, in conducting randomized controlled trial in the use of ERCP in acute cholangitis and in acute pancreatitis, leading to publications in leading medical journal-New England Journal of Medicine. He was promoted Consultant Surgeon of USU, Kwong Wah Hospital, in 1991, and was appointed Chief of Service (Surgery) & Combined Endoscopy Unit, Caritas Medical Centre (CMC), in 1995 till his retirement in 2015 at the age of 60. Later in the year, he was rehired as full-time Consultant Surgeon in Tuen Mun and Pok Oi Hospital of the New Territories West Cluster (NTWC) of Hospital Authority (HA). He helps with teaching, training, quality improvement, major HBP surgery, and to kick-start emergency surgical service in Pok Oi Hospital. After finishing a 2 years contract with NTWC, he returned to CMC in December 2017, and work as part-time Consultant Surgeon, working 4 days a week, doing teaching and training of HBP and UGI surgeons. He is now also appointed as Honorary Consultant to the Department of Surgery in Tuen Mun Hospital.

Jonathan P Ng

Dr Jonathan Ng obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from Trinity College, Dublin in 2014. He pursued his interest in sports medicine and obtained the Master of Science (Sports Medicine and Health Sciences) from CUHK in 2016. Dr. Ng joined the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong in 2017. During his training, he was awarded gold medals for the Hong Kong Intercollegiate Board of Surgical Colleges Membership Examinations (MHKICBSC), as well as the Sir Harry Fang Gold Medal for HKCOS-RCSE Joint Specialty Fellowship Examinations. His interest in clinical research led him to winning the Vincent Chan Trophy for the best paper on adult joint reconstruction at the HKOA annual congress in 2020. He is currently working under the leadership of Professor Patrick Yung in the SMART (sport medicine and arthroplasty) team at Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong. He is a passionate educator and is regularly involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical training. He is currently in the teaching committee for the undergraduate orthopaedic program, as well as the intern coordinator at the department. He has recently been appointed as an Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor at CUHK.

Kelvin KC Ng

Dr. Ng graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1995. He specializes in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and liver transplantation. He was trained and worked in the Department of Surgery, The University of Hong Kong since 1996, and in The University of Hong Kong - Shenzhen Hospital in 2018. In 2019, Dr. Ng was appointed as Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Dr. Ng is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the American College of Surgeons and the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong. He is also a member of several international professional organizations, including the International Society of Digestive Surgery and International Hepato-Pancreato Biliary Association. Internationally, he is the treasurer of International Society of Digestive Surgery Asia-Pacific (ISDS AP) and Asia-Pacific Digestive Week Federation (APDWF).

Dr. Ng's main research interests focus on the field of management of liver cancer and liver transplantation. His clinical researches in liver cancer range from surgical management for early cancer to local ablation therapy for advanced disease. He was awarded the postgraduate degree of Doctor of Philosophy on the study of local ablation therapy in animal models and the degree of Master of Surgery on the study of clinical applications of radiofrequency ablation for liver cancer. In 2002, Dr. Ng pioneered the application of radiofrequency ablation in the management of early liver cancer and he led a single-center randomized trial of hepatic resection versus radiofrequency ablation for early hepatocellular carcinoma, which was completed in 2007 with significant clinical results. The long-term follow-up results of this trial was published in British Journal of Surgery in 2018. Dr. Ng is one of the few transplant surgeons in Hong Kong, who can independently perform various types of liver transplant, including adult-to-adult living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) using right liver graft with middle hepatic vein or left liver graft using middle hepatic vein, adult-to-pediatric living donor liver transplantation, deceased donor liver transplantation (DDLT) and split-liver liver transplantation. His personal series of LDLT and DDLT is over 800 and 200, respectively. In 2009, he pioneered the issue of MELD exception policy for patient with T2 hepatocellular carcinoma in Hong Kong and he was involved in the first donor-exchange living donor liver transplantation in Hong Kong.

Dr. Ng is the author of over 95 peer-reviewed articles in international journals, including Annals of Surgery, British Journal of Surgery, Radiology and Hepatology. He is the editorial broad member of international journals, including The Surgeon and Medicine(R). He has delivered invited talks in various international conferences based on his renowned research works. Based on his academic achievements, he has received distinguished awards, including Gold Medal for Best Original Research, John Wong Young Surgeon's Award, Young Investigator Award, the G.B. Ong Travelling Fellowship, International Guest Scholarship and Carlos A. Pellegrini's Travelling Fellowship by American College of Surgeons.

Michael TY Ong

Dr Ong, Michael Tim-Yun joined the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology as a Clinical Assistant Professor in October 2018. He obtained his MBChB degree with an Intercalated BSc degree in Genetics from The University of Leicester, United Kingdom. Dr Ong joined the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the New Territories East Cluster in 2010 and he received his training in Orthopaedics at the Prince of Wales Hospital and the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital. He obtained his MSc of Sports Medicine and Health Science from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2012 and completed his specialist training in 2014.

Given his surgical expertise in ACL reconstruction and joint replacement, Dr Ong is interested in basic and clinical research related to the bone tendon junction healing of ACL graft and improving surgical outcomes for joint replacement patients. In addition, Dr Ong is interested in the application of artificial intelligence to the prevention, diagnosis, and management of knee osteoarthritis. Dr Ong also has an active interest in regenerative medicine research, including the use of biomaterials and tissue engineering approaches to optimize treatments and reduce recovery time. He has authored over 50 papers in numerous international journals and has been invited to present at numerous local and oversea conferences.

In addition to his clinical activities, Dr Ong is active in education and community outreach. He is the Deputy Director of MSc in Musculoskeletal Medicine, Rehabilitation and Geriatric Orthopaedics Programmes. He is committed to promoting sports medicine education and is an active speaker in many public outreach events.

Aysha Salim

Ms. Aysha Salim is an Advanced Practice Nurse in the Department of Surgery at Prince of Wales Hospital. In 1995, she completed the Enterostomal Therapy Nurse Education Program (ETNEP) in the Princess Margaret Hospital in Hong Kong. She also finished the Wound Care Specialty and Debridement Course in the Medical University of South Carolina, U.S.A. in 1998.

Apart from the above academic qualifications, Ms. Shit had clinical attachments in different countries. In 1996, she has visited the Schneider Children Hospital, New York for studying the bowel management program for children. In the same year, she has attended the Paediatric Urology Nursing Course in Robinson College, Cambridge, UK. In 1998, she has attended the Course on Neurogenic Bladder in Copenhagen, Denmark and finished the Paediatric Urodynamic study training in the University Hospital of Aarhus, Denmark. She had exposure to different practices in paediatric urotherapy and biofeedback training during the clinical attachment in University Hospital of Aarhus, Denmark; Universitair Medisch Centrum of Utrecht, The Netherlands; University Hospital of Ghent, Belgium and Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital of Goteborg University, Sweden in 2001. In 2005, she has finished the Paediatric Urodynamics Course in Utreche, The Netherland organized by the International Children Continence Society. In 2012, Ms. Shit has joined the Congress of World Council of Enterostomal Therapy and has wound service visit in Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia. She also attended different wound care conferences in Japan, Malaysia and Shanghai on 2012, 2013 and 2017. Besides, she has Baby Friendly Hospital visit in Singapore General Hospital in 2015 and completed the Oversea Corporate Scholarship Program for Clinical Leaders in The Hospital of Sick Children, Canada in 2018.

In the clinical area, Ms. Shit was a Nurse Specialist (1997-2017) in stomal care, wound care and children incontinence care in Department of Surgery, Prince of Wales Hospital, Shatin, Hong Kong since 1997 and she was a ward manager (2017-2020) in Department of Surgery, PWH. Apart from managerial duty, she has initiated and participated in different nursing and clinical research. She also organized different nurse-led clinics in the hospital such as the Paediatric Incontinence and Stomal Therapy Clinic, Adult Enterostomal and Wound Care Clinic and the Paediatric Urotherapy Clinic etc. She is a member of the Hong Kong Enterostomal Therapist Association (HKETA) and professional advisor of the Hong Kong Childhood Spina Bifida Support Group from 1997. Ms. Shit is now Nurse Consultant (Stoma & Wound Care) in NTEC, HK. Apart from managing stoma and wound care services in all 7 hospitals in NTEC, she supervised clinical practices and research in the specialty. She has organized wound management course and different wound care seminars for staff training. She is the chairperson of PWH Wound Management and Pressure Injury Prevention Workgroup and representative of the ET Specialty Advisory Group of the Hospital Authority.

Hon-Chi Suen

Dr. Suen Hon Chi graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1982. After training at Queen Mary Hospital, Kowloon Hospital and Grantham Hospital, in 1990, he pursued advanced studies at the Harvard University with Dr. Hermes Grillo who was the father of modern tracheal surgery, and Washington University in St. Louis with Dr Joel Copper who performed the first successful lung transplant in 1983 and invented lung volume reduction surgery for severe emphysema. He then practiced in St. Louis for 20 years. Four years ago, he returned to Hong Kong. He tackles problems in every organ in the thorax. His scope of practice includes cardiac surgery, pulmonary surgery, airway surgery, esophageal surgery, mediastinal surgery, diaphragmatic surgery and chest wall fracture surgery. His interest spans from minimally invasive surgery to maximally aggressive surgery. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Thoracic Disease and he is Associate Editor-in-Chief of the journal Current Controversy in Thoracic Surgery. In 2021, he became Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in Surgery of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Tse Wing Kin graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2012 with a Bachelor in Nursing. He earned a Master of Science in Management in Health Care from the Oxford Brookes University in 2017. He has been working as an operating theatre (OT) nurse in Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) since 2012. In 2016, he started working as a MIS nurse. He is now a nurse trainer of MIS and robotic surgery. He also helps coordinating different difficult or new operations for both UpperGI and Colorectal team such as HIPEC and PIPAC surgery.

Randolph HL Wong

Dr Randolph Hung-leung WONG received medical training from Medical School of The Chinese University of Hong Kong since 1995. He received Tang Siu Cho Memorial Prize in 1998 and obtained his MBChB (CUHK) in 2000. He undertook higher surgical training in cardiothoracic surgery in Prince of Wales Hospital, Grantham Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital and obtained FRCSEd (CTh) from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2008. He further obtained Fellow of The College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and Fellow of Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in 2009.

Dr Wong’s career interests include complex open aortic surgery including total arch replacement and frozen elephant trunk procedure and open thoracoabdominal aortic surgery, hybrid thoracic aortic intervention, hybrid and minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures. He is the convener of Hybrid Operating Theatre management committee of Prince of Wales Hospital and actively participates in the development of hybrid cardiovascular interventions.

Academically, Dr Wong’s research interests are the techniques in improving outcomes of complex aortic procedures, screening for thoracic aortic aneurysm, genetic basis of aortic pathology as well as hybrid endovascular intervention for cardiovascular diseases. He contributed over 140 publications in peer-reviewed journals including Circulation, JACC, CHEST, Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 7 book chapters and more than 110 invited talks. He is now review editor of Frontier in Cardiovascular Medicine (IF 6.06). He has been regular reviewer of CHEST, HEART, Journal of Cardiac Surgery, Journal of Thoracic Disease, European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Interactive CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery.

Currently, Dr Wong is the Professor and Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also the Cluster Service Team Head of the New Territories East Cluster and Ex-Chairman of the Specialty Group of Cardiothoracic Surgery of Hospital Authority. He is the Secretary of Cardiothoracic Surgery Board of Hong Kong and a Fellow of American College of Chest Physician, European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Society and member of American Heart Association, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery.

Ms. Wong is currently an Advanced Practice Nurse at Department of Surgery, Prince of Wales Hospital. Ms. Wong obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2004. She has various clinical experiences in neonates, paediatrics and surgery. She received speciality training in Advanced Surgical Nursing from the Institute of Advanced Nursing Studies in 2020.

Ms. Wong has been a case manager of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinic in department since 2020. She works collaboratively with surgeons, endocrinologists, anaesthetists, clinical psychologists, dietitians, physiotherapists and social workers to support bariatric clients going through the journey of bariatric surgery. She organized patient support group activities such as exercise class and health talks for bariatric clients.

Mr. Yeung completed his nursing training in The School of General Nursing & Midwifery, Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH), Hong Kong in 1999. After graduation, he serves at the Department of Surgery, PWH and specialized in cardiothoracic surgery. Mr. Yeung obtained his bachelor (nursing) and master degree (nursing) from Monash University and University of Western Sydney respectively. On top of the nurse role, he has taken up the perfusion duty. He received his perfusion training in The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2003 and completed his overseas specialty training at the perfusion department, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, United Kingdom in 2007. Mr. Yeung accredited double fellow members in Cardiac Nursing (Perfusion) and Surgical Nursing (Cardiothoracic) under the Hong Kong Academy of Nursing. Because of his consistent contribution in nursing profession and community, he has awarded “Certificate of Merit” in 2016 under the Fellowship Recognition Award of the Hong Kong Academy of Nursing.

Mr. Yeung believes teaching and training is of vital important in the propagation of quality healthcare service in a consistent way. As such, he actively participates in varies clinical teaching and training programs, he is the clinical mentor and adjunct tutor of The Nethersole School of Nursing, CUHK, he is also the lecturer and clinical mentor of perfusion course that was held by CUHK. Beside of clinical teaching, Mr. Yeung also interests in developing nurse-led services, numeric initiatives have been implemented over the years in Cardiothoracic Surgery, likes nurse-initiated defibrillation, nurse-led clinic, early recovery after surgery (ERAS) program and also, the fast-track lung cancer screening.

Mr. Yeung’s aspiration is to promote the development of specialty nursing in Hong Kong. He is now the council member of Hong Kong College of Cardiac Nursing and the education committee member of Hong Kong College of Surgical Nursing. He truly believes by serving and contributing through professional bodies, nursing specialty advancement could be benefit at large.

Hon-Chi Yip

Dr. Yip is currently clinical assistant professor at the Division of Upper Gastrointestinal and Metabolic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also serving as honorary associate consultant at the Prince of Wales Hospital.

Dr. Yip graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2008 with honors. He received the RC Li Gold Medal in Surgery. He joined the Department of Surgery at Prince of Wales Hospital after graduation and obtained the fellowship in General Surgery in 2015.

Focusing on Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Cancer management, Dr. Yip underwent overseas training in Osaka and Tokyo, Japan in 2017. His current research focuses on endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of early gastrointestinal cancer, as well as minimally invasive techniques in surgical treatment of gastric and esophageal neoplasia.

Dr. Yip is engaged in regional education and training. He serves as a core member in the Asian Novel Bio-imaging and Intervention Group (ANBIIG), an Asian wide organization focusing on endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of GI luminal diseases. He is also a member of the Education Committee in the Asia-Pacific Society of Digestive Endoscopy (APSDE). He is currently board member of the Asia-Pacific Endo-Laparoscopic Surgery Group (APELS).

YIU Ka Wing, Ivan completed his studies in Bachelor of Nursing at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2019, where he built a solid foundation in nursing theory, practice, and patient care. Following his undergraduate degree, he pursued further specialisation and academic advancement by obtaining a Master's degree in Nursing with concentration in Perioperative and Anaesthesia Nursing at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2023.

Since 2019, he has been working as a registered nurse at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong. Within this esteemed public healthcare institution, he has gained invaluable experiences and exposure to medical settings. Currently, he is an integral part of the Operation Theatre for the Cardiac-Thoracic Team, where he actively contributes to the delivery of high-quality care.

He primarily supports complex surgical procedures, including open heart surgery, endovascular surgery, and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery, where he assists in the preparation and coordination of surgical interventions, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, comfort, and well-being throughout the perioperative period.
