Research Interest


Dr Ng was born and educated in Hong Kong.  In 1989, he obtained his medical degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.  After one year of internship service, he joined the Department of Surgery of the Prince of Wales Hospital and received training in the field of general surgery.  Dr. Ng's interest in surgery is upper gastrointestinal tract diseases and therapeutic endoscopy.  After completion of his basic surgical training in 1993, he has focused his development in the clinical research and surgical treatment of peptic ulcer complications, oesophageal carcinoma and gastric malignancies.

Dr Ng's interest also includes basic surgical research and minimally invasive surgery.  He was awarded the Young Scientist Research Prize in the 4th United European Gastroenterology Meeting (1994) and the Young Scientist Award in the 11th International Workshop on Gastroduodenal Pathology and Helicobacter pylori in Hungary (1998).  He is also the winner of the Best Paper Presentation in the 3rd and the 5th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Hong Kong College of Surgeons.  He went to the US in 1996 to gain further insight into gastric carcinogenesis at the molecular level and worked as a research fellow with Prof Martin Blaser in the Vanderbilt University, Tennessee.  Dr Ng obtained his higher degree of Doctor of Medicine from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1999.  Currently he is the Associate Dean (Development) of the Faculty of Medicine, Director of CUHK-Jockey Club Minimally Invasive Surgical Skills Training Cenre and the Chief of Upper Gastrointestinal Division in the Department of Surgery of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
